“Can indo Lanka- Times” which is an affiliation of CANADA INDIA SRI LANKA INC have gone beyond the publication area to help Canada’s fastest growing sport CRICKET by getting the cooperation of the Chairman of Sri Lanka cricket Hon. Arjuna Ranatunga M P. He is the World cup winning captain for Sri Lanka and the legend has pledged to help the Canadian National side in providing them with much needed training/coaching to reach competitive International status.
Although the First Prime Minister of Canada Sir John A Mcdonald declared this gentlemen’s game, Cricket, as a National sport way back in 1867 Cricket had a very slow growth until Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) & Chairman of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Hon Arjuna Ranatunga M P visited Toronto to offer his support to the Canadian Cricket Association (CCA) .This ground breaking meeting was organized by “Can Indo Lanka” in March of 2008. Ever since then, the CCA have managed to obtain sponsorship deals from private organizations and the Government of Canada.
Dr Ruby Dhalla is the First South Asian woman as well as the youngest woman to ever be elected to the House of Commons as a Member of Parliament. She is also a CCA official who has also met with Sri Lanka’s cricket chair and requested Hon. Ranatunga’s help in Canadian cricket. Dr. Dhalla is a M P in from Springdale-Brampton. This Greater Toronto city- Brampton, is recognized as the fastest growing city for cricket in the whole of Canada. Dr Dhalla is widely respected for her tremendous support towards Canada’s younger generation.

It fed our audience with much needed information to foster better relations and to increase trade between these countries in the coming years. We hope to conclude many more interviews with trade ministers from South Asia to educate North American entrepreneurs on the many opportunities that awaits them. Trade between Canada and India currently stands at a mere 2 billion dollars a year and is a shear signal of North America’s lack of penetrating early into the South Asian Markets to take advantage of this booming market.
Many South Asian countries offer tremendous tax breaks and many more other opportunities that are valuable components in making any business flourish. India made the highest number of Millionaires in the world signaling to the rest of the world of its potential of being a world leader while countries such as Sri Lanka offer extremely cheap labour and a unique work force with Sri Lanka having the highest literacy rate in the region and its super geographical location making it a significant hub in the South Asian region with easy access to all the other countries such as India, Bangladesh, Maldives, Singapore, Malaysia etc. This gives it an edge to serve as a country to establish Regional Head Offices to serve business interest in the region. Ms Piumika Fernando is one such example as she became the youngest World Champion in Racketlon in the recently concluded world championship held in the Netherlands.
