The story of Ms. Meleni David is indeed a remarkable success story. Born and raised in Mannar, Sri Lanka and educated in her early childhood years at Jaffna Holy Family Convent, Ms Meleni David continued her higher education in Mannar St. Xavier's College before qualifying to enter Sri Lanka’s prestigious Faculty of Law, at the University of Colombo in 1985
Her entry to the Faculty of Law in the University of Colombo brought many changes to her day to day living as the young Meleni was now living far away from her usual surroundings in Mannar, and was making new friends of every ethnic background in Sri Lanka's capital, Colombo.
Everything was going extremely well for the young scholar when suddenly, to her disappointment a prominent political party took to the streets of Colombo and demanded a complete halt to everything that was operational ranging from universities, shops, restaurants, and public transportation. With a pretty grim future in hand, especially with the closure of her university, she found herself working for Sri Lanka's national Carrier "Air Lanka" from 1987 to 1991.
She then decided to get married and start a family, before long she migrated to Canada in 1995 with her husband and two children. While in Canada she supported her family by working in a retail store and was constantly surrounded by colleagues who attended university. They were very supportive and kept on encouraging her to continue her studies.
n 1998 the mother of two found herself enrolled in Psychology at York University where she graduated with honours in 2001. In the same year Meleni entered the Osgoode Hall Law School to continue her dream that was shattered way back in the late eighties due to the troubles in her home country. Finally, the day dawned when she was called to the Ontario bar in July 2005.
With a license to practice as a Lawyer in the province of Ontario the determined Meleni was now ready to serve the community and make her mark and wasted no time in opening her own Civil Litigation firm in that same year.
Today, Meleni David is a prominent civil litigation lawyer practicing in Scarborough, Ontario . She has over 5 years of experience defending the rights of victims involved in motor vehicle accidents, Toronto Transit (TTC) accidents, slip and fall accidents as well as manufacturer’s defects. She runs a very successful practice with over 3 associate lawyers, 3 articling students and 24 legal assistants reporting to her.
Outside of her legal career, she is a devoted mother of her two lovely daughters and an active volunteer in the South Asian community and other noteworthy charitable organizations.
