A young, remarkable doctor
When young Bala turned thirteen his father Dr. Gopal decided to make Toronto, Canada their home and enrolled the young lad at Thistletown Collegiate Institute in Etobicoke. While in high school he received many awards for being on the school honour roll, as well as Citizenship recognition and for Peer Tutoring. With his eyes on the prize, he volunteered at the Etobicoke General Hospital during the weekend during his time in high school.
Bala completed his B.Sc in Biology at Memorial University in Newfoundland. During his undergrad years he volunteered at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in St. John’s. During his second year he worked for the Public Services Commission of Canada as their student ambassador to the Memorial University.
